A splash of color and creativity is coming to downtown Whitehall—and local voices are invited to shape it.

On Thursday, May 1, the public is encouraged to attend a special community session to meet the artist behind Whitehall’s upcoming outdoor mural. Hosted in partnership with the Arts Council of White Lake-Nuveen Center and the City of Whitehall, this interactive event will offer residents a unique chance to connect with the muralist and help influence the design.
The mural is planned for a wall in the future Colby Street Pocket Park, a space currently under development in downtown Whitehall. While the park isn’t open just yet, it’s already generating buzz as a welcoming new destination—and the mural will be one of its first visual centerpieces.
The artist selected for the project is Stephen Hargash, a artist based in Frankenmuth, Michigan, known for his large-scale public works and vibrant storytelling through art. During the session, attendees will have the chance to learn more about his background, explore past projects, and contribute ideas that reflect the character and heart of the Whitehall community.
To see examples of Stephen’s mural work, visit the Arts Council of White Lake’s post, which features the current mural design draft and examples of Hargashes previous work.

This project is part of a broader effort to celebrate creativity and bring people together through the arts. It’s not just about painting a wall—it’s about creating something meaningful that represents us all.
