18th Annual Labor Day Walk: A Perfect Day in White Lake Area

The 18th Annual Labor Day Community Walk in the White Lake Area was a day to remember, with clear skies, sunshine, and temperatures in the 60s. Over 150 participants gathered for this cherished event, organized by the White Lake Area Chamber & Visitors Bureau (WLACVB) in collaboration with the cities of Montague and Whitehall.

As participants arrived at the Hart-Montague Bike Trailhead, they were warmly welcomed with commemorative pins. Many proudly wore pins from previous years, with some attendees boasting collections of nearly all 18, though a few admitted to losing one or two over time. The atmosphere was one of excitement and anticipation as the Strum It White Lake Ukulele Club performed a special song right before the walk commenced, setting the perfect tone for the event.

The walk then began in Montague, with participants making their way across the White River Bridge toward the WLACVB depot in Whitehall. The community spirit was palpable as everyone enjoyed the scenic route and the pleasant weather.

“This is our 18th year that we’ve done this—that’s a lot! I could not be more thrilled with the event and the community participation, feeling the love,” said Amy VanLoon, Director of the White Lake Area Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Bureau. “There are many other communities doing this too. It’s a fun thing and a good way to celebrate our laboring community.”

At the conclusion of the walk, the mayors of Whitehall and Montague. Participants then gathered in front of the Chamber building, where refreshments were served, allowing the community to chat and connect in a relaxed and friendly setting.

Endorsed by the Michigan Fitness Foundation, the 18th Annual Labor Day Walk was a true celebration of tradition, community spirit, and the vibrant White Lake Area.
