City of Whitehall Police Reports 3/26–4/2

March 26

The School Resource Officer responded to Shoreline School after an 8-year-old threw rocks at staff members. Staff said the student had made threats before and was supposed to have his backpack checked when he arrived around 8:30 a.m. The child refused and left the building. He missed with the first rock, but a second rock hit a staff member. The SRO warned the student and brought him back to class.

Also on the 26th, a middle school student reported being assaulted in the hallway two days earlier. A 12-year-old claimed that an 11-year-old acquaintance punched him in the face and head. The suspect said the victim had called him a name the previous week. A report was filed with Juvenile Court for possible charges.

March 27

An in-home care service contacted police about a possible drug theft by an employee. After an internal review, the company identified a worker suspected of stealing from a client on Division Street. The investigation is still ongoing.

Later that day, police responded to a 911 hang-up call on W Main Street. Officers learned a 9-year-old called 911 because they were unhappy with the food choices: meatball subs or peanut butter and jelly. The officer explained how to properly use 911. No further action was taken.

At 3:19 p.m., officers were called to Shoreline School again due to a drop-off issue. After a student was returned to school, the separated parents were contacted. The mother arrived first. The father began calling and yelling at staff before arriving at the school. Officers were able to calm him down and he left peacefully.

March 28–29

On March 28, an officer doing traffic checks noticed a car on Alice Street with a driver who didn’t match the registration photo. After confirming the driver’s identity, the 42-year-old Twin Lake man was arrested on a warrant and lodged in the Muskegon County Jail.

Later that evening, another traffic stop was made on Colby Street after an officer heard a loud engine. A 22-year-old passenger from Muskegon was arrested on a warrant for Destruction of Property. He was also taken to the Muskegon County Jail.

On March 29, police responded to a disturbance on N Livingston Street. Neighbors reported hearing yelling. Officers spoke with the two men involved, who admitted to arguing over a dog. They agreed to stay away from each other. No further action was taken.

March 31–April 2

Officers were called to Whitehall Middle School after a 12-year-old student walked out of the building. The student was found sitting on the goal post of the football field. Officers convinced the student to come down, but the child tried to run before being placed in a patrol car and taken home.

Later that day, a three-car crash occurred on White Lake Drive near Zellar Road. A 17-year-old driver hit the back of a car, pushing it into another vehicle. No one was hurt and no citations were issued.

On April 1, a King Street resident contacted police about threatening text messages from an employee. The person asked for more money and sent violent videos when there was no reply. The messages stopped after the resident told the worker not to return. Police followed up the next day and confirmed there were no issues.

Later, police took custody of a 46-year-old Muskegon woman from state police. She had failed to appear in court after being cited in May 2024 for driving without a license. She was taken to the Muskegon County Jail.

On April 2 at around 4 a.m., an officer on patrol saw a bicycle on Colby Street. After circling back, the rider was gone. The officer searched the area and found a 35-year-old homeless man on Sophia Street. He was identified, cleared of any crimes, and released. He said he was heading to Montague.
