City of Whitehall Police Reports 4/3–4/7

April 3

At 1:04 a.m., a Whitehall officer on patrol spotted a vehicle backed into a parking space behind a business on Colby Street. Since this can be a tactic used to hide license plates from cameras, the officer stopped to investigate. A computer check revealed the vehicle’s owner had recently been connected to an assault investigation by Michigan State Police. The officer contacted MSP troopers who were then able to finish their investigation with this new information.

Police were called to the 300 block of Division Street after a resident grew concerned about a neighbor. The 7:55 p.m. caller reported that the neighbor’s dogs had been outside barking for an unusually long time. Officers went to the home for a wellness check and discovered the family was on vacation. A relative had been caring for the dogs and left them outside while shopping. No further action was needed.

A welfare check was requested on Hanson Street after a son couldn’t reach his elderly mother for two days. When an officer arrived, he heard a television on but got no response at the door. The officer entered the home and found the woman at the bottom of a staircase. She had fallen two days earlier and couldn’t get up. Emergency crews from White Lake Fire Authority and Trinity EMS responded, and the woman was transported to Trinity Health for treatment.

Whitehall Police responded to a parking lot crash in the 900 block of Colby Street at 1:18 p.m. A 55-year-old man parked his car but failed to secure it properly. The car rolled forward and hit another parked vehicle. While trying to stop the vehicle, the man fell and suffered injuries to his head and face. Though vehicle damage was minor, the man was treated at the medi-center for his injuries.
