A resident on the 900 block of Colby Street called police at 7:39 a.m. after her daughter refused to return a borrowed car. Officers advised that the situation was not criminal and assisted by transporting the caller to her daughter’s residence to retrieve the vehicle.
Ten minutes later, a mother on the 100 block of Main Street reported her 9-year-old daughter as a runaway. The child had left the home barefoot. Officers located the girl on the 200 block of Market Street and returned her safely.
At 8:19 a.m., police were called to Whitehall Middle School after a student was caught with alcohol and a vape device. The principal had received a tip from the high school that the student had been drinking “Jack” and vaping on the bus. A metal detector revealed a vape device, and the student led the principal to a waste container where he had discarded an empty “Mineral Water” bottle. A passive breath test confirmed alcohol. The 13-year-old was cited and released to his father.

At 2:07 p.m., a Whitehall High School student reported to the school resource officer that $100 had been stolen from her unlocked car. The money had been withdrawn the previous evening and left in plain view. Later, the student informed investigators that she had found the money and no theft had occurred.
At 10:44 p.m., an officer observed a speeding truck on Colby Street near Mears Avenue. The vehicle attempted to pass another car using the parking lane and struck mirrors before rear-ending a second vehicle. The 56-year-old Rothbury driver failed sobriety tests and was arrested for operating while intoxicated. She was transported to the Muskegon County Jail where a blood sample was collected and she was held overnight.
May 10
Police were called at 10:11 a.m. to a dispute during a youth baseball game. A woman alleged that her ex-husband’s new girlfriend was calling her vulgar names. Both parties continued to argue in front of the officer. No assault occurred, and police advised both women to avoid further contact.
At 9:35 p.m., officers assisted with a medical call in the 1200 block of Lake Street. A woman had fallen and was injured. Her husband, reportedly intoxicated, became verbally abusive toward medical staff and was asked by the business to leave. Police escorted him out, and he was driven home by friends.
May 11
A family dispute in the 400 block of Muskegon Avenue prompted a 2:02 p.m. police response. The caller, not on site, alleged that his ex-girlfriend—who still lives at the residence—unplugged a video system during an argument. The woman stated she did so to get his attention because their child had run away. The pair later agreed to avoid contact and calm down. No further action was taken.
