Legends of 2024: Hunters and Anglers

Over the past week, we’ve received some fantastic hunting and fishing photos and stories from our outdoor community. We were thrilled to see submissions that truly capture the essence of our shared passion for the great outdoors.

One of the standout contributions came from Gerrie Miller, who shared not only an impressive buck shot but also delightful family fishing pictures. Gerrie’s buck was a remarkable sight—a testament to skill and patience. The family fishing photos warmed our hearts, showcasing generations coming together to enjoy the simple pleasures of nature. It’s moments like these that remind us of the joy and connection that outdoor activities foster among family and friends.

Another captivating submission was a story by Steven M. Crooks about his unforgettable bear hunt in the western Upper Peninsula. His vivid narrative transported us right into the heart of the adventure:

“Leaves frosted from tip to tip quickly thawing as the sun peeks through the golden leaves of the western Upper Peninsula. Dogs have already embarked on a journey with every bellow echoing another. Minutes turn to hours as the chase continues, bombing down old overgrown logging trails in a pickup that may have also been on its last leg. Hours later, in an aspen-filled thicket so dense the sun finds it difficult to penetrate but your sense of smell is filled with autumn reminders—crisp fallen leaves, pine boughs, and gunpowder. The chase is over.”

Steven’s story encapsulates the thrill of the hunt and the profound connection we feel with nature during these pursuits. His eloquent depiction of the environment and the emotions involved resonated deeply with many of us.

These narratives and images not only highlight personal achievements but also inspire others to embark on their own outdoor journeys. They remind us of the unforgettable moments that hunting and fishing bring into our lives—the quiet reflections, the adrenaline rushes, and the stories we’ll tell for years to come.
