The White Lake Area Chamber of Commerce (WLACC) has been a vital part of the community since its official formation in 1971. Initially, there were separate chambers in Montague and Whitehall, but the decision to unite led to the establishment of the WLACC, emphasizing unity between the two cities. The chamber focuses on promoting local businesses and tourism while also fostering community connections. Over the years, it has expanded its role, including forming the White Lake Area Chamber and Visitors Bureau in 1981, which now operates from a historic train depot.
The WLACC has consistently supported the local economy, adapting to changes and challenges over the years. It has only had three full-time directors, highlighting the stability and continuity within the organization. The chamber’s initiatives, such as the “Live White Lake” campaign, showcase its commitment to community branding and local pride.
Social media has become an essential tool for the chamber, helping to promote events and connect with both locals and visitors. The chamber’s events, including the business expo and various seasonal festivals, are central to its mission of supporting and showcasing local businesses.
Despite the challenges of balancing its dual role as a chamber and visitors bureau, the WLACC continues to thrive, thanks to strong community support and a clear focus on its mission. The organization encourages everyone to support and advocate for local businesses, recognizing that word of mouth is a powerful driver of success.
The White Lake Area Chamber of Commerce remains a cornerstone of the community, celebrating its history while looking forward to future growth and opportunities.
