Class of 1995: A Year of Achievement and Growth

The Class of 1995 at Montague High School left a lasting impact through their remarkable contributions in sports, academics, and extracurricular activities. Each student brought unique talents to the school community, shining in various fields, whether on the field, stage, or in leadership roles. The Wildcats showcased their determination, school spirit, and teamwork, making this year one to remember.

Athletic Success and Recognition

The Class of 1995 excelled in athletics, with standout performances across multiple sports. The softball team, under strong leadership and skilled players like Mary Clayton and Summer Lipka, celebrated a winning season. Clayton was named All-Conference shortstop and Most Valuable Player, while Lipka earned All-Conference outfield honors. This team demonstrated exceptional skill and teamwork, coming close to regional finals. Similarly, the baseball team led by Tim Peterson, who earned All-Conference and All-State honors as a pitcher, maintained a stellar 22-5 record. Other players like Kevin McDonald, recognized as All-Conference catcher, and Dave Flagsted, named All-District third baseman, contributed to their success, taking them to district and regional tournaments.

Clubs and Extracurricular Involvement

In addition to athletics, the students thrived in clubs and organizations that enriched their high school experience. The Future Farmers of America (FFA) chapter was a prominent group, competing at state and national levels. Members like Jared TenBrink and Joy Ross participated in the Parliamentary Procedure team, showcasing their knowledge and skills. The FFA also participated in the Muskegon Mall recycling demonstration, emphasizing environmental responsibility. Meanwhile, the Montague Marching Band, known as “The Pride of the Wildcats,” put on an exciting performance based on Dante’s Divine Comedy, earning top ratings at district festivals and nearly achieving a 1 rating at the state level. The band brought music and energy to school events, reflecting the dedication of its members.

Academic Excellence and Leadership

Academics were equally celebrated, with many students achieving excellence in the classroom. The National Honor Society recognized students who demonstrated academic commitment, leadership, and character. Students like Michaelanne Montgomery and Chris Carroll took on leadership roles in Student Council, working together to organize school events and foster a positive atmosphere. The yearbook staff, featuring dedicated members like Summer Lipka and Tracy Kitzler, captured these moments, ensuring that the memories of 1995 would be preserved. Their work documented the accomplishments and milestones of the year, leaving a legacy for future classes.

The Class of 1995 embodied teamwork, dedication, and pride in every activity they pursued. Whether excelling in varsity volleyball under the guidance of coach Amy Eilers, where Lori Rolph was named Most Improved Player, or celebrating the boys’ basketball season’s progress despite setbacks, these students demonstrated resilience. The track team also saw success, with Jeanne Spitler leading as the top distance runner. The varsity golf team achieved a record-breaking performance, securing first place in the conference and consistently turning in low scores throughout the season. Their commitment, sportsmanship, and unity truly defined this class, leaving a lasting impact on Montague High School that would inspire future Wildcats for years to come.
