White River Township Reviews Data Center Ordinance Draft

The White River Township Planning Commission spent the bulk of its Feb. 17 meeting continuing careful, line-by-line work on a draft Data Center Ordinance — a policy that could shape how large-scale technology facilities are regulated locally.

The ordinance remains in draft form, and no votes were taken Tuesday night. Much of the discussion centered on making sure the language is clear, enforceable, and adaptable to future industry changes. Commissioners emphasized the importance of avoiding ambiguity and ensuring the township’s standards will remain effective over time.

The group plans to continue refining the draft at its March 17 meeting, with a public hearing expected once revisions are complete.

Brief Solar Update Noted

During commission comments, it was noted that Geronimo Power submitted a letter to the township regarding the ongoing Lakeside Solar project.

No discussion or action was taken on the project during this meeting.

Other Business

  • The commission approved the agenda and Jan. 20 meeting minutes.
  • The Zoning Administrator reported an increase in activity as spring approaches, including land divisions, consultations, and ordinance-related inquiries.
  • Township officials are preparing for upcoming ADA website compliance requirements.

The takeaway: While no final decisions were made, the commission continues steady progress on a draft ordinance intended to provide clear, long-term guidance for future data center development in the township.
