The Arts Council of White Lake – Nuveen Center is inviting the community to provide input on an exciting new mural that will be painted on the side of CatchMark Technologies. The mural will be located in the new pocket park in downtown Whitehall. This project, set to be completed by the end of September 2025, will capture the essence of the White Lake Area.

Two community engagement sessions were held in September to gather ideas and inspiration for the mural. These sessions took place at the Montague/Whitehall football game on September 20 and at the White Lake Library on September 27. Residents who were unable to attend these sessions can still share their thoughts by filling out an online questionnaire at this link. You don’t need to be an artist to provide feedback—just a community member with ideas for what you’d like to see represented in this public artwork.

The Arts Council of White Lake has also issued a Request for Qualifications (RFQ), seeking an experienced community-based Michigan artist or artist team to design and install the mural. The RFQ can be found here. A selection committee, including members from ACWL-Nuveen, CatchMark Technologies, and Whitehall City Hall, will review the submissions and choose a small group of finalists. Each finalist will submit a design draft in January 2024, and by the end of the month, the committee will select the artist who will bring the mural to life.

This mural will be a key feature in downtown Whitehall, and community involvement is crucial to ensuring it reflects the spirit of the White Lake Area. Be sure to share your input and take part in shaping this vibrant piece of public art!
