Nestled in the White Lake area, Mitch and Elie are two individuals who have seamlessly integrated into the Montague and Whitehall communities, bringing with them a vision for a unique and engaging space. Their journey from city life to small-town charm reflects a shared passion for fostering connections, contributing to local initiatives, and creating something lasting.
A Journey to White Lake
Mitch grew up in Saginaw but spent years running a lighting business in Chicago. Retirement led him and his wife, Kimber, to seek a peaceful, waterfront community. Their search ended in Tannery Bay, where they found a welcoming neighborhood focused on volunteerism.
Elie worked in the automotive industry, managing operations for Fortune 500 companies. Retirement allowed him to consult while relocating from Michigan’s east side. After visiting Whitehall in 2019, he and his wife, Maria, decided to stay. A story in The Beacon about the Splash Pad inspired them to get involved in White Lake.
The White Lake Garage Condos Concept
Lack of storage space became a shared problem for them and others. Instead of settling for traditional storage, they launched White Lake Garage Condos. The idea combined practical storage with a social atmosphere.
“We wanted to create a place where people could do more than just store their stuff—somewhere they could work on projects, host gatherings, and be part of a community,” Mitch explained.
Mitch saw an opportunity to create a space where people could work on projects, gather, and connect. The condos offer more than storage. They provide an environment for friendships, local partnerships, and shared resources. Local contractors helped bring the vision to life.
More Than Just Storage: A Social Hub
Unlike typical storage, White Lake Garage Condos promote community. Euchre tournaments, dart leagues, and open houses bring people together.
“Our goal is 14 owners who enjoy the space and each other’s company,” Mitch shared.
Events have already drawn large crowds. Future plans include picnic areas, entertainment spaces, and expanded community engagement.
Investing in White Lake’s Future
Mitch and Elie actively support local events. They help with Float-A-Palooza, Snow Farmers, and other initiatives.
Elie volunteers with the Knights of Columbus at St. James Church. He also supports Friends of the Playhouse and recruits help for the Giving Tree and MI Tootsie Roll Drive.
“Many here had great careers and now give back,” Mitch explained. “We use our experience to make a difference.”
Rebranding to White Lake Garage Condos
Originally named Put ‘n Store, the project needed a clearer identity. People mistakenly assumed it was just a rental storage facility. Ownership and community were key, so the name changed to White Lake Garage Condos.
Each unit includes:
1,500–3,000 sq. ft.
Individual HVAC systems
Water and sewer
100 AMP electrical service
Internet access
LED lighting
Spray foam insulation
Ceiling fans
24-hour CCTV security
“These deeded units offer more than storage,” Elie explained. “They can house boats, RVs, businesses, or even a golf simulator.”
Looking Ahead
Mitch and Elie envision a thriving space for friendships and gatherings. They plan business networking events, celebrations, and other activities.
Creating a model for others remains their goal. Thoughtful development and community focus drive their vision.
“It’s not just about garages,” Elie reflected. “It’s about bringing people together and enhancing how we live.”
Their dedication to White Lake goes beyond business. Friendship, collaboration, and community remain at the heart of everything they do.
