At 10:51 a.m., officers were dispatched to Shoreline School. A mother had concerns that the children’s father, who had been drinking, might try to pick them up. Police located the 38-year-old Norton Shores man, who refused sobriety testing. The children ultimately went home with their mother. No charges were filed.

Whitehall Police continued to investigate a fraud case involving a resident of Iowa Street. The woman reportedly sends money to a man online who claims he is rich and plans to marry her, despite her being already married. Officers have attempted to warn the woman, but the scam remains ongoing.
8-Year-Old Runs Away After Suspension – April 30
At 4:40 p.m., police were called after an 8-year-old ran away from home in the Colby Street area. The child had been suspended from school earlier that day and was upset. While officers spoke with the mother, the child returned home. No further action was required.
Brother Accused of Choking Sibling – May 2
Whitehall Police responded to Main Street at 9:40 a.m. after a man reported his older brother assaulted him over rumors. The 32-year-old suspect allegedly knocked his 28-year-old brother to the floor and began choking him. Officers arrested the suspect and lodged him at the Muskegon County Jail.
Dispute Over Coffee Leads to Mental Health Referral – May 2
A mother on Alice Street called police after a verbal altercation with her adult son. The 25-year-old reportedly threatened her after being scolded for leaving the coffee pot on. Officers found the son later, and he voluntarily went to the hospital. A mental health referral was submitted to HealthWest.

At 12:40 p.m., a 92-year-old Shelby man collided with another vehicle at Colby Street. The man’s view was blocked by a turning car in the inside lane, leading to a crash with a 67-year-old Whitehall man. No citations were issued and no injuries were reported.

A resident on Gibbs Street contacted police at 3:18 p.m. regarding a phone issue. The officer helped the 84-year-old man adjust his screen brightness and explained how to fix it in the future. No other assistance was needed.

Police responded to a burning complaint on Mears Avenue at 2:41 p.m. The fire was found to be safely contained in a fire pit and only natural wood was being used. No violations were noted.
Wallet Reported Stolen on Colby Street – May 6
At 3:47 p.m., a woman on Colby Street reported her wallet missing. She had left her purse inside her apartment for about 20 minutes while outside. Upon returning, she found the wallet was gone. There are no suspects at this time.
