Hey Wild Fact Fans, Seth here with the new Friday Feature creature. Don’t forget to please like, share and comment questions down below If you have any on this weeks animal ^^

This weeks feature creature is a royal and rare royal looking , primate that roams the forests and ancient ruins of India 🇮🇳 . While their tail is their main namesake; at first glance ; you said that calling them after their thick manes 🦁 would make more sense with the powerful wild cat they’re named after. Social, persistent and always on the look for food; this species of macaque is one of the most rare in the world 🌍; mainly due to habitat loss. And with this species being very territorial; having plenty of territory to search for food is a big deal; which is why sharing the knowledge on these fascinating primates is a must.

This weeks feature creature is the Lion 🦁 Tailed Macaque 🐵

1. Measuring in at 3 feet long (with their tail being up to 1/3rd of its body length); and with males weighing in at 11 to 22lbs (twice as much females); the Lion Tailed Macaques are one of the smallest species of macaques in the world 🌎

2. Also known as the Wanderoo; the Lion Tailed macaque gets its tail for its lion 🦁 like tail despite the lack of a tail tuft. The silvery white manes both males & females have ; also leads them to sometimes be nicknamed bearded 🧔 apes 🦧 (despite being monkeys 🙈 not apes)

3. Lion-tailed macaques are very social ; living in troops of 10-20 individuals & will smack their lips at each other as a friendly greeting. Within these troops, females are interrelated and socially bonded, whereas males are unrelated and more solitary, mainly spend their times guarding the territory from other troops

4. While mainly shy towards and try to avoid humans; they can become aggressive

5. Lion-tailed macaques have different alarm calls for different predators such as tigers 🐅, leopards 🐆 , pythons 🐍 , crocs 🐊, birds of prey such as eagles 🦅 , and wild dogs like dholes 🐕

6. The lion-tailed macaque is mainly a Diurnal omnivore that likes to mainly eat fruit 🍉 , seeds , buds flowers 💐 and leaves 🍃. They also like to eat plenty of other foods such as insects like caterpillars 🐛 , spiders 🕷️ , small vertebrates such as bird 🐦 eggs 🥚 and nestlings , lizards 🦎, tree frogs 🐸, small mammals 🐭 ,fungi 🍄‍🟫 , wood 🪵 , and bark on rare occasions. They have cheek pouches that can store the same amount of food as their stomach!

7. They often get most of the water 💧 they drink from the dew that collects on leaves 🍃

8. Because they move around so much looking for food ; they are a main seed disperser for many jungle plants 🌱

9. The lion-tailed macaque is very adaptable ; even to the rapid habitat loss of their natural habitat. In deforested areas, macaques have been observed to spend much more time foraging on the ground rather than via their usual, arboreal lifestyle. They also like to play in water 💦 as well; especially in hot 🥵 times

10. Thanks to a hard callous on their behinds, they have no trouble sleeping on a branch sitting upright!

11. Lion tailed macaques breed year round; with non related males mating with the females. After a pregnancy of 6 months, the female gives birth to a single infant which she’ll have ride underneath on her stomach for 5 to 6 weeks ; which is when they’ll start eating solid foods.

12. At 4 years old; males leave the troop ; and live within bachelor groups for 6 years till theyre ready to find a female troop and challenge the main leader

Next weeks feature creature hint 🫆❓: this tiny but mighty invertabrate predator is famous for lightning ⚡️ fast strike speed, amazing camouflage, and keen eyesight ; which makes it a top notch ambush predator; even to its own mates!
