July 1st
Whitehall Police were contacted at approximately 12:55 p.m. by a resident reporting a civil dispute with her husband. She stated that her husband had initially refused to let her use the “newer truck.” After a brief argument, she received the keys and left for her appointment, though later than planned. When officers inquired about further details, the woman became upset and left the station.
Later, at 2:12 p.m., officers assisted the Muskegon County Sheriff’s Office with a three-vehicle crash near White Lake Dr. and US-31. Officers helped divert traffic at the scene.
At 11:57 p.m., dispatch advised officers of a suspicious motorcycle near S. Baldwin St. and E. Slocum St. Officers located the bike and spoke with the 46-year-old operator from Drummond Island. He claimed he had traveled to the area expecting a massage appointment but believed he had been scammed. Officers cleared without further incident.
July 2nd
Officers responded to the 1100 block of Johnson St. for a possible breaking and entering. The reporting party stated someone had kicked in their door. The door was found to lack a lock and proper latch assembly. Three similar reports followed. Video evidence showed a juvenile knocking and running from a residence. A school resource officer recognized the individual. Four juveniles were later located and admitted to playing “ding, dong, ditch.” All parties were warned about the dangers of their actions.
That morning at 8:00 a.m., the department began several background checks for individuals seeking federal or military clearance. No red flags were discovered.
At 11:45 a.m., City Hall staff turned in a heavily damaged LG cell phone found on Colby Street. Owner information could not be recovered.
July 3rd
At 11:21 a.m., officers responded to a report of a pontoon boat illegally parked in the roadway at W. White Lake Dr. and S. Mears Ave. With help from a wrecker service and a bit of manpower, the boat was placed back on the trailer.
At 7:18 p.m., Montague and Whitehall officers responded to the 8700 block of Ferry St. for a probation violation. A 46-year-old Spring Lake woman was taken into custody for violating probation and resisting arrest. She was lodged at the Muskegon County Jail.
July 4th
While preparing for parade traffic control, officers were dispatched at 9:12 a.m. to the 100 block of S. Mears Ave. for a report of indecent exposure. Two witnesses reported seeing a male subject exposing himself near a commercial window. The building was secured and searched with a keyholder present, but no suspect was located. Follow-up is ongoing.
At 10:54 a.m., officers responded to a civil dispute in the 900 block of S. Division St. Two women had been arguing, and one claimed the other had threatened her. The dispute involved children’s shoes. The shoes were returned, and one party left the residence.
At 10:32 p.m., officers responded to Goodrich Park for reports of juveniles throwing firecrackers. Officers searched the area but did not locate the suspects.
July 5th
At 3:45 a.m., officers conducted a wellbeing check in the 1600 block of S. Lake St. They found an intoxicated man from Caledonia wandering the area looking for golf balls. Officers released him to a sober adult at a nearby home.
At 4:19 p.m., an off-duty officer observed a man pushing a bicycle and pulling a recycling bin on Colby St. The 46-year-old Montague man, known to be homeless, was found in possession of a bin reported stolen from a local realtor’s office. The bin was returned, and a warrant request for theft was filed.
At 8:14 p.m., officers stopped a 47-year-old Muskegon Township woman driving on a suspended license. The same woman had been cited the previous week. Her vehicle was impounded, and she was cited again.
July 8th
At 11:52 p.m., officers responded to a report of a suspicious man near the 100 block of S. Lake St. A man in his 40s to 50s with faded red hair and a fedora was reportedly taking pictures of a minor. When confronted, the man said he was photographing the sunset but left the area. The same individual was later seen taking photos of two young females before being confronted again and fleeing in a gray Honda Element.
