The Singular Life by Brent Raeth

About the Author

Brent Raeth is an executive leader, consultant, and writer who has spent over two decades helping organizations and individuals grow through integrity and purpose. His own journey, however, wasn’t free from challenges. When asked what inspired him to write The Singular Life, Raeth points to his struggle of living a “split life,” showing up differently at work and at home. That turning point made him realize people needed a roadmap toward wholeness. “I wanted to show there’s another way,” he explains, “a way to bring your full self into every room.”

His work combines personal experiences with research in organizational psychology and leadership studies. In fact, when asked how much of the book is based on personal story versus research, Raeth explains that it is a blend of both—real struggles he lived through, alongside professional insights he gained from years of leadership coaching and consulting. By weaving those two strands together, Raeth is able to speak authentically about the cost of compartmentalization and the promise of integrity.

About the Book

The Singular Life: Breaking the Work-Home Divide to Lead with Integrity challenges the common idea of “work-life balance.” Raeth argues that the biggest misconception people have about balance is that it requires treating work and home as two separate worlds. Instead, he encourages readers to integrate both into one coherent life. If asked to describe “living a singular life” in one sentence, Raeth puts it simply: “It means living as the same person in every room, guided by the same values.”

The book is practical as well as reflective. It offers tools and exercises designed to help people bring their values into every aspect of life. Out of all the practices included, Raeth personally leans most on daily reflection—asking himself if his actions matched his values across the day. He admits that one of the hardest parts of living a singular life in today’s world is resisting the pressure to perform different identities for different audiences. Yet, he insists that integrity pays off. He recalls real-life examples of leaders who, by dropping the mask and leading authentically, saw trust and creativity flourish within their teams.

Ultimately, Raeth hopes readers walk away with one central message: exhaustion is not a requirement for success. In his words, “Authenticity and presence are better paths than performance and image.” He also points to hustle culture and constant productivity as major reasons people struggle with authenticity, but believes readers can overcome these pressures by choosing integration over division.

Raeth notes that embracing these principles has personally transformed his own life, strengthening his relationships, leadership, and peace of mind. Looking ahead, he hopes to continue helping others live singularly through workshops, coaching, and further writing.
