City of Whitehall Police Reports 6/17 – 6/19

June 17

At 10:58 a.m., officers responded to the 400 block of E. Muskegon Ave. for a 911 hang-up. A search of the 911/CAD system showed a history with the phone number. Officers spoke with the resident connected to that history and confirmed the call was accidental.

Later that afternoon at 2:22 p.m., officers came across a disabled vehicle near S. Mears Ave. and Pinecrest Rd. The involved officer checked in with the occupants and assisted as needed.

In a more unusual call, officers were dispatched at 2:37 a.m. to a home near Alice St. and S. Baldwin St. for a report of a bear digging through the homeowner’s garbage. Security footage confirmed the bear’s presence, and the Department of Natural Resources was contacted and informed.

At 8:05 a.m., a 72-year-old Fruitland Township resident was caught trying to remove a township sign from the roadside near W. White Lake Dr. and S. Lake St. She had a rope attached from her truck to the sign, which had been broken and pulled from the ground. The woman told officers her attorney gave her permission to remove the sign. She was reminded that it was not legal to remove signage from a public right-of-way. The incident was forwarded to the Muskegon County Sheriff’s Office for possible charges.

At 3:49 p.m., officers were called to take a report of a stolen debit/credit card that had allegedly been used at a local business in the 200 block of E. Colby St. the night prior. Upon reviewing security footage, officers discovered that the reporting party herself had made the transaction. She later admitted to not remembering the purchase, possibly due to alcohol consumption.

While on routine patrol around 3:00 p.m., a Whitehall officer heard radio traffic about a three-vehicle crash near W. White Lake Dr. and Zellar Rd. Though the Muskegon County Sheriff’s Office was assigned to the crash, the Whitehall officer responded to help direct traffic as the scene was blocking the roadway.

At 3:40 p.m., officers were called to the 300 block of E. Lewis St. for a juvenile complaint. A parent reported her 12-year-old son had left home without permission after a disagreement. Officers located the boy and talked with him about better ways to handle conflicts rather than running away.
