Echoes From The Past – Event in White Lake – The Franklin House hotel

Building the Franklin House

The Franklin House Hotel was built in 1873 in Montague, Michigan. It replaced the Montague House, which had burned down. The hotel became a lively center for events and travelers in the town. Its central location and welcoming design drew people from all over.

A Community Gathering Spot

The Franklin House was not just a hotel; it was the heart of Montague. Its large windows, cozy porch, and beautiful woodwork made it stand out. Many important community events, social gatherings, and business meetings happened there regularly.

The Tragic End

In 1961, a fire destroyed the Franklin House, ending its nearly century-long history. Although people tried to save it, the hotel couldn’t be rebuilt. The community deeply felt the loss, as it was more than just a building—it was part of Montague’s identity.

Remembering the Franklin House

Today, the Franklin House lives on through stories, documents, and photographs. Its memory remains important to the Montague community. Although it no longer stands, it’s remembered as a symbol of the town’s rich history and vibrant past.
