Michigan drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians have an opportunity to help shape the future of transportation safety across the state.
The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is collecting public input through an online survey as part of its work to update two key safety initiatives: the Strategic Highway Safety Plan (SHSP) and the Vulnerable Road User Safety Assessment (VRUSA). These plans guide how the state identifies safety challenges and invests in strategies to reduce serious crashes and fatalities on Michigan roadways.
Why This Matters
The SHSP and VRUSA focus on improving safety for all road users — including drivers, pedestrians, bicyclists, and others who are most at risk. Feedback from residents and local stakeholders helps MDOT understand real-world concerns and prioritize solutions that move Michigan closer to the goal of zero roadway deaths.
Who Can Participate?
MDOT encourages input from:
- Michigan residents
- Community organizations and stakeholders
- Local businesses
Survey Timeline
The online survey is open now and will remain available through March 15, 2026.
Accessibility and Additional Input
MDOT is committed to making participation accessible. Individuals who need mobility, visual, hearing, written, or other assistance can request accommodations by contacting Orlando Curry at 517-241-7462 or CurryO@Michigan.gov. Requests should be made at least five business days in advance when possible.
In addition to the survey, comments can also be submitted by email or U.S. mail to:
