The White Lake Ambulance Board has voted to move forward with a proposal to renew the current ambulance millage for an additional five years. This renewal request comes one year earlier than originally planned due to potential changes in state law regarding when and how millages can be requested. Out of concern for these possible changes, the Board believes it is in the community’s best interest to place this renewal request on the November ballot.
Please note: This is a renewal only. The Board has voted to keep the language and terms exactly the same as the 2020 proposal, which passed in all service areas. The renewal will request up to 1.9 mills with the option to collect less. Currently, we are operating at 1.7 mills, thanks to careful budgeting. While economic conditions and rising costs for fuel, supplies, and equipment were considered, we have maintained responsible fiscal practices to minimize the burden on taxpayers.
Service Overview
White Lake Ambulance responds to approximately 2,000 calls for service each year. Our main base, located on Whitehall Road in Whitehall Township, provides quick access to US-31 in both directions. From this location, an Advanced Life Support (ALS) ambulance serves Whitehall Township and Blue Lake Township, with average emergency response times of under 10 minutes.
We also lease space from the Montague Fire Department, housing another fully staffed ALS ambulance. This unit responds to calls within the City of Montague, Montague Township, and White River Township—also averaging well under 10 minutes for emergency responses.
Financial Responsibility
Since 2014, White Lake Ambulance has maintained a strong commitment to fiscal responsibility. Our current budget, as well as past audits, are available for public review and have consistently been positive. We maintain both an equipment fund and a general fund to prepare for emergencies or unforeseen needs. All ambulances and equipment are purchased outright—we carry no loans or bonds.
We have also increased wages to improve employee retention and recruitment, recognizing that experienced, well-trained personnel are essential to delivering the high standard of care our community deserves.
We appreciate your continued trust and support, and we remain committed to providing exceptional emergency medical services to the communities we serve.
Sincerely,
White Lake Ambulance Board
