Roots of the Farm
Lewis Adventure Farm & Zoo in New Era, Michigan, started in the 1970s as a 700-acre fruit farm founded by Winston and Alice Lewis. Over the years, it stayed in the family, passing to Gary and Brenda Lewis, and eventually to their son Scott and his wife Cindy. Originally, the farm operated a small roadside stand selling cherries, apples, peaches, and asparagus. In 2003, after a temporary closure, the farm reopened with a new vision that would change it forever.
Attractions Through the Seasons
During summer, the farm bursts with activity thanks to Splash Acres, a water play area featuring water cannons, a giant “Big Bucket,” and themed sprinklers. Attractions like pedal carts, barrel train rides, giant slides, farm skee-ball, and jumping pillows keep visitors entertained all day. When autumn arrives, the farm transforms into its Fall Festival, offering a corn maze, u-pick apples, pumpkin patches, bird aviaries, and family-friendly games. The mix of seasonal fun keeps families coming back year after year.
The Farm Market & Bakery
The farm’s market is a major draw for visitors, offering fresh, locally grown produce alongside a bakery that serves pies, doughnuts, cinnamon rolls, sticky buns, and specialty breads. These homemade treats provide a perfect break between attractions and offer guests a taste of the farm’s roots in agriculture. Many visitors stop by the market to take home fresh goods as a souvenir of their day.
Spotlight on Jeffrey the Camel
One of the farm’s most beloved residents is Jeffrey the camel. Jeffrey is a dromedary camel who shares his home with Quiggly, the more dominant of the two. He gained fame after a “Visiting Pet Smart” moment with the Lewis family went viral. Known for loving fresh running water and animal crackers, Jeffrey is also famous for disliking being stuck indoors. The farm celebrates his birthday—like his 17th Birthday Party & Corn Roast—making him a true celebrity among visitors. Guests often line up to feed him, snap photos, and enjoy his friendly personality.
Why Families Love the Farm
Lewis Adventure Farm & Zoo combines fun, learning, and hands-on experiences in one place. Guests can feed camels, pet kangaroos, explore the bird aviary, and take part in seasonal games. With stroller- and wheelchair-friendly paths, shaded resting areas, and countless photo opportunities, it’s a destination designed for all ages. Blending its farming heritage with modern attractions, the farm has become a must-visit spot for Michigan families.
