Montague Bike Rodeo Promotes Fun and Safety

The Montague Bike Rodeo rolled into town this past Friday, May 9, 2025, transforming the Montague Farmers Market into a vibrant hub of cycling fun and education.

Hosted by the Montague Police Department, the event welcomed families from across the White Lake area for an evening dedicated to promoting bike safety and community engagement.

A Community in Motion

From 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., Church Street was closed to traffic, allowing young cyclists to navigate a thoughtfully designed obstacle course. Organized in collaboration with the Muskegon County Bicycling Coalition, the course featured stations focused on essential biking skills, including hand signaling, balance, and safe turning techniques. Children who arrived wearing helmets were rewarded with free t-shirts.

The event also offered helmet checks and bike safety inspections, ensuring that participants’ equipment met safety standards. These services were provided by local volunteers and safety advocates, emphasizing the community’s commitment to fostering a safe cycling environment for its youngest members.

Community Generosity and Perfect Weather

It was a fantastic turnout, with beautiful weather and a crowd full of smiling faces. In addition to the safety activities, organizers raffled off 20 donated bikes and handed out a variety of other fun prizes—adding even more excitement to the evening.

Much of the event’s success was made possible by generous local support. The Montague Police Department extended heartfelt thanks to the many volunteers and donors who contributed their time, services, and resources. Special recognition was given to Ray and the Muskegon County Bicycling Coalition for their safety course leadership, instruction, and helmet donations.

Looking Ahead

The Montague Bike Rodeo stands as a testament to the power of community collaboration in promoting safety and active lifestyles. As the event continues to grow, organizers aim to expand its reach, incorporating more interactive stations and educational opportunities. Residents are encouraged to participate in future rodeos, volunteer their time, or contribute resources to support this valuable community initiative.
