Fire Prevention Open Houses: Montague & White Lake

Each year, fire departments across the nation take time to highlight the importance of fire prevention, safety awareness, and community readiness. Locally, both the Montague Fire District and the White Lake Fire Authority are continuing this important tradition by opening their doors to the public with their annual Fire Prevention Open Houses.

Why Fire Prevention Matters

Fires can happen anywhere—at home, at work, or in the community—and often with little warning. According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), fire departments in the United States respond to hundreds of thousands of structure fires each year. Sadly, many of these could be prevented through education, preparedness, and safe practices.

Fire prevention is not only about teaching children “stop, drop, and roll” or showing adults how to use a fire extinguisher—it’s also about strengthening community bonds and ensuring that families feel confident in their ability to react during an emergency. By taking the time to learn fire safety practices, residents can significantly reduce the risks of fire-related injuries and property damage.

What to Expect at the Open Houses

At both events, families will have the chance to:

  • Meet local firefighters and see their equipment up close.
  • Explore fire trucks and learn how they are used in emergencies.
  • Watch demonstrations on fire safety techniques.
  • Receive important information about smoke alarms, escape planning, and other life-saving tips.
  • Enjoy a family-friendly evening that mixes fun with critical education.

These events also give the community a chance to thank local firefighters for their service and dedication.

Open House Dates & Details

  • White Lake Fire Authority: Thursday, September 26, from 6–8 p.m.
  • Montague Fire District: Tuesday, October 8, from 6–8 p.m.

Both events are free to attend and open to all ages.

Building a Safer Community Together

When neighbors come together to learn about fire prevention, the entire community benefits. These open houses are more than just an opportunity to see fire trucks and meet firefighters—they’re a reminder that preparedness saves lives.

Make plans to bring your family, ask questions, and walk away with tools that could one day make all the difference.
