January Happenings at White Lake Area Libraries

A fresh year of learning, connection, and creativity at White Lake Community Library and Montague Library.

Kick off the new year with a full calendar of programs for all ages at the White Lake Community Library and the Montague Branch. From storytimes and playgroups to yoga, book clubs, and special workshops, January offers plenty of ways to stay engaged during the winter months.


Dungeons & Dragons (Montague Branch) – Registration Required

Saturday, January 3 | 10:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
Teens are invited to hang out and play Dungeons & Dragons in a welcoming, fun environment. All experience levels are encouraged to join, and snacks are provided. Registration is required and covers the entire December–February program cycle.


Toddler Storytime (Montague Branch)

Tuesdays, January 6, 13, & 20 | 9:30 – 10:30 a.m.
Designed for children ages 2–3 and their caregivers, Toddler Storytime includes books, fingerplays, music, movement, and early literacy activities in a friendly group setting.


Playgroup (White Lake Community Library)

Tuesdays & Fridays throughout January | 10:00 – 11:30 a.m.
Playgroup offers a relaxed space for young children and caregivers to connect through play, social time, and exploration.


STEAM Snowflakes (Montague Branch) – Registration Required

Tuesday, January 6 | 3:30 – 4:30 p.m.
Kids can explore the magic of winter through hands-on STEAM activities. Participants will create snowflakes using everyday materials while blending math, art, and creativity.


Knit, Crochet & Connect (White Lake Community Library)

Mondays throughout January | 3:00 – 5:00 p.m.
Bring your current project or start something new while enjoying conversation and community. This casual gathering is open to knitters and crocheters of all skill levels.


Gentle Yoga (White Lake Community Library)

Thursdays throughout January | 9:30 – 10:30 a.m.
Certified instructor Heather Hesse leads Gentle Yoga sessions suitable for all experience levels. Participants are encouraged to bring a yoga mat and water bottle. Cost is $10 per class, with no advance registration required.


Chair Yoga Class (White Lake Community Library)

Thursdays throughout January | 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Chair Yoga with Rhonda Aley offers a supportive and accessible practice focused on strength, flexibility, and relaxation. Suggested donation is $5, or free for Silver Sneakers participants.


Afternoon Hang (White Lake Community Library)

Fridays throughout January | 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.
Teens are invited to unwind, connect with friends, and enjoy games, crafts, or creative activities in a safe and welcoming space.


Theater & Imagination Workshop (Montague Branch) – Registration Required

Saturday, January 17 | 9:30 – 10:30 a.m.
Presented by Muskegon Civic Theatre, this interactive workshop introduces students in kindergarten through fifth grade to the magic of theater through games and imaginative play.


Cookbook Club (White Lake Community Library)

Monday, January 12 | 5:30 – 7:00 p.m.
Food lovers can share dishes inspired by the month’s theme while swapping recipes and conversation. A delicious way to connect with fellow cooks.


Pick-Your-Own-Book Club (White Lake Community Library)

Tuesday, January 13 | 5:30 – 7:00 p.m.
Participants choose a book of their own and share about it with the group, encouraging discussion across many genres and reading styles.


Harbor Light Credit Union Workshop: Protecting Your Identity (White Lake Community Library)

Wednesday, January 14 | 1:00 – 2:00 p.m.
Learn practical tips for safeguarding your personal information and avoiding identity theft in this informative community workshop.


Eating for Energy (White Lake Community Library) – Registration Required

Wednesday, January 14 | 5:30 – 6:45 p.m.
This evening program focuses on nutrition strategies that support sustained energy and overall wellness.


January Series: Community Conversations (White Lake Community Library)

Weekdays in January | 12:30 – 1:30 p.m.

The January Series returns with a powerful lineup of lunchtime talks featuring nationally recognized authors, thinkers, and changemakers. These engaging presentations encourage reflection, conversation, and fresh perspectives on creativity, community, culture, and connection.


Soothing Spa Treatment (Montague Branch) – Registration Required

Monday, January 26 | 10:00 – 11:00 a.m.
Adults can enjoy a relaxing, hands-on workshop creating spa-inspired items like fresh foot spray and cuticle balm—perfect for winter self-care.


Special Storytime: Braille! (Montague Branch)

Tuesday, January 27 | 9:30 – 10:30 a.m.
Children and caregivers will learn how braille works and explore how people who are blind read using their fingers, guided by Librarian Sax.


Grandmothers Group (White Lake Community Library)

Tuesday, January 27 | 10:00 – 11:00 a.m.
This monthly gathering invites women of all ages to share thoughtful conversation about relationships, life experiences, and community in a welcoming circle.


Dungeons & Dragons (Montague Branch) – Registration Required

Saturday, January 31 | 10:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
The month wraps up with another Dungeons & Dragons session for teens. Registration is required.
