Montague Township Board Recap – July 8, 2025

At-a-Glance

  • Hazard Mitigation Plan adopted — makes the township eligible for FEMA disaster-recovery grants.
  • Election workers get a raise — inspectors will earn $15/hr and chairpersons $16/hr beginning with the August primary.
  • Leaf-blower purchase approved — caretaker John may spend up to $15,000 on a stand-on blower to speed park and sports-field clean-up.
  • Boundary swap explored with Whitehall Twp. — proposal would shift several parcels along Weesies Rd. to improve road maintenance and emergency response.
  • Payables of $155,591 and treasurer’s report filed.

Discussion Highlights

Senior Millage – Green Address Markers
Seventeen residents have ordered reflective address signs; the board will buy 30 to meet anticipated demand.

Parks & Facilities

  • New TV displays are installed upstairs and downstairs; a protective frame and sign-up policy will be drafted.
  • Outdoor bulletin/message board on order; installation details pending.
  • Ongoing vandalism: vulgar stickers in restroom facilities prompted talk of exterior security cameras and warning signs.

Roads & Drainage

  • Weesies Road chip seal: joint project with Whitehall Twp. stalls because each township owns half the roadway. The proposed parcel exchange would simplify future maintenance, dispatch confusion, potential delayed services, and legal clarity.
  • Steel Road logging and Clear Springs drainage remain open issues; engineer quotes will be solicited.

Community Events & Notices

  • Ragnar Relay returns Sept. 19-20 (north-to-south route).
  • White River Solar Meeting – July 17, 5 p.m. at Montague Christian School.
  • Henderson Lake Disc-Golf Open – Saturday, July 12; residents encouraged to watch or volunteer.

Board & Department Reports

  • White Lake Fire Authority: 253 runs YTD (210 same period ’24), including eight calls during Electric Forest; three new firefighters completed FF I/II academy.
  • White Lake Ambulance: 97 calls in May (average P1 response 6.84 min). FY run revenue $1.41 M; healthy fund balance earmarked for future ambulance purchase.
  • Wastewater, Parks & Recreation, and Library representatives noted routine operations and budget approvals.

Looking Ahead

  • Staff will draft resident-notification plans if the Weesies Rd. boundary adjustment proceeds.
  • Clerk Drew Roesler will implement new election-pay scale for August 6 primary.
  • Caretaker John will source demo or lightly-used blowers before purchasing new.
  • The board will revisit restroom-security options (signage vs. cameras) in August.

Next Regular Meeting: Tuesday, August 24, 2025, 7 p.m. — Montague Township Hall.
