Every wooden boat has its own history, from generations of family outings to countless hours spent restoring it by hand. This August, the White Lake Association hopes to bring those boats together for a celebration of White Lake’s maritime heritage.
As part of the White Lake Maritime Festival, the White Lake Association is seeking owners of wooden and vintage boats to participate in its Wooden Boat Show on Saturday, August 8, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the White Lake Municipal Marina.
The show celebrates the craftsmanship, beauty, and history of wooden boats while giving festival visitors a chance to experience a unique part of White Lake’s maritime heritage. Organizers hope to showcase a variety of boats, from meticulously restored classics to treasured family boats and ongoing restoration projects.
“There is something special about seeing these boats together,” the organizers said. “Each one tells its own story and reflects the craftsmanship and traditions that have been part of life on White Lake for generations.”
There is no registration fee to participate.
Boat owners have two options for displaying their vessels. Boats can be docked in the water at the White Lake Municipal Marina or displayed on their trailers at nearby Goodrich Park, allowing both water ready and land displayed boats to be part of the event.
The Wooden Boat Show is one of the featured attractions during the White Lake Maritime Festival, which takes place August 6 through 8 and celebrates the area’s rich connection to boating, shipping, and life on the water.
For the White Lake Association, the goal extends beyond simply displaying beautiful boats. The show offers an opportunity to preserve local maritime history, connect boat owners with the community, and inspire appreciation for the craftsmanship that has defined generations of boating on White Lake.
Anyone interested in participating can contact Chris Billie at cjbillie@comcast.net for more information and a registration form.
Whether your boat is a fully restored classic or a labor of love still taking shape, organizers hope you’ll consider becoming part of this year’s celebration of White Lake’s maritime heritage.
