If you own a business, manage employees, or help make HR or payroll decisions in West Michigan, this is something you’ll want to take a look at.
Nearly one year into Michigan’s updated Earned Sick Time Act (ESTA), the Michigan Chamber of Commerce is asking employers how the law is actually working in real-world business settings—and they’re seeking feedback specifically from those who run or manage businesses.
To help gather that input, the Michigan Chamber has created a short survey intended for Michigan employers and business owners.

Note: This survey is designed for employers and those involved in business operations. It may not apply to individuals who are not business owners or employers.
Why Employer Feedback Matters
The Earned Sick Time Act directly affects how businesses schedule staff, manage time off, and remain compliant with state law. Employer feedback helps ensure that future conversations around the law reflect how it’s functioning in practice.
According to the Michigan Chamber, responses from employers will help:
- Inform discussions with policymakers
- Identify challenges businesses may be facing
- Highlight opportunities to improve clarity and compliance
Even a few minutes from business owners and managers can help ensure the employer perspective is represented.
2026 Compliance Checklist for Employers
In addition to the survey, the Michigan Chamber has released a 2026 Earned Sick Time Act compliance checklist, created specifically for employers.
The checklist is designed to help businesses:
- Review current policies
- Prepare for upcoming compliance needs
- Identify questions or areas needing clarification
It also includes a link where employers can submit questions directly to the Michigan Chamber.

Questions About How ESTA Applies to Your Business?
If you’re an employer with questions about the Earned Sick Time Act and aren’t sure where to turn, the Michigan Chamber encourages outreach. If they don’t have an immediate answer, they’re happy to help connect employers with the right resources.
We wanted to make sure local employers and business owners were aware of this opportunity to share feedback and access compliance tools—especially as Michigan workplace policies continue to evolve.
