A hands-on fishing program is coming to Whitehall this winter, giving local kids a chance to learn the basics of fishing while connecting with experienced anglers from the community.
The White Lake Area Sportfishing Association (WLASA), in partnership with the White Lake Area Chamber of Commerce and WLACE, is hosting “Kids Get Hooked on Fishing!”, a free educational class designed for students in grades 3–5.
Learning Fishing Basics — Hands On
The two-hour seminar is built to introduce young anglers to the fundamentals in a fun, approachable way. Topics covered during the class include:
- Ice fishing equipment and techniques
- How to tie strong fishing knots
- Fish identification and basic biology
- Bait casting practice
All instruction will be led by experienced members of WLASA, giving kids a chance to learn directly from anglers who know local waters and fishing conditions.
More Than Just a Class
In addition to instruction, students who attend will be entered into a drawing for fishing-related prizes, adding a little extra excitement to the day. Refreshments will be served, and parents or grandparents are encouraged to attend alongside their child.
The goal of the program is to introduce kids to fishing in a positive, supportive environment — and to help build skills they can use for years to come.
