Local Businesses Needed for Library Card Challenge

WHITEHALLWhitehall Middle School is kicking off its September Library Card Sign-Up Challenge, a month-long effort to connect students with the White Lake Community Library and inspire a lifelong love of reading. The school is inviting local businesses to play a key role in making the program a success—by donating prizes for participating students.

The challenge, organized by Erin Fritz, Special Projects Coordinator and Middle School Librarian, encourages all middle school students to have an active library card. “I just know that our community library does have so much to offer where we are more limited in the school setting, and I just want to make sure to open the doors for the kids to explore those options,” Fritz said.

How the Challenge Works

Students with an existing library card simply need to show it to Fritz to be entered into the prize drawings. Those without a card can visit the White Lake Community Library to sign up and join the fun.

The Role of Local Businesses

While the program benefits students, it’s also an opportunity for area businesses to make a visible difference. Whitehall Middle School is looking for donated prizes—such as gift cards, items, or services—that will be awarded to students who complete the challenge.

By donating, businesses will:

  • Gain recognition in school announcements, newsletters, and social media.
  • Help inspire local middle schoolers to become lifelong learners.
  • Show strong support for education and the community.

“We’re happy to pick up donations or work with you to arrange drop-off,” Fritz said, noting that businesses are welcome to include promotional materials to display alongside their prize.
